RESTRICTIONS ON CREDIT
“Contribution Of Retailers” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 13. The recent credit restrictions must be accepted as the contribution of retailers toward solving the economic problems of the country, said the chairman (Mr L. W. Keals) at the annual general meeting of the Farmers’ Trading Company, Ltd., yesterday. Although the directors regarded these restrictions with concern, no section of the business community should be immune from sharing current problems to enable the Government to remove restrictions when they were no longer necessary. Goods Scarce The retail trade would also be affected by the extension of the importing year as, with the curtailment of overseas goods. including raw materials, even locallymade goods would be scarce. Due to greater efficiency on the part of local manufacturers. prices of merchandise had been generally stable. Prices were also low. he said, because of the competition caused by the greater number of retail outlets.
