Minor Flooding In Some Streets
Heavy south - westerly showers in Christchurch yesterday caused minor flooding n some streets. The chief engineer, planning, of the drainage board iMr E. F. Scott) said that minor flooding had been reported in McFaddens road. Blenheim road. Curletts road, and England street. The worst had been in England street where water was over the crown of the street in the afternoon. He said it was not expected that there would be much surface water ly’ng around today unless there was heavy rain during the evening. A total of 60 points of rain was recorded at the Weather Office at Harewood to 9 p.m yesterday but the heaviest falls were in the afternoon, only seven points of rain being recorded between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. A heavier fall was reported in Avonside by a Woodham road resident, who said that 89 points of rain had been recorded up to 9 n m. Frosts of 57de«t. at Harewood and ’9 deg. at the Botcrfc Gardens were recorded before midnight cn Wednesday. Temperatures were low yesterday, between 40 deg. and 45 deg., and the south-westeriv wind reached speeds up to 25 miles an hour.
