Tenancy .Act
Sir, If “Disillusioned Nationalist” is a genuine prospective purchaser and can finance it, be may inspect the property offered Of course cne does not see such uneconomic accommodation advertised to let; tenants do not willingly leave. When they do the owner endeavours to maintain the vacancy. If “Disillusioned Nationalist" ccn explain the census figures recently published regarding vacant housing, in the opinion of many brought . ebout mainly by the Tenancy Act. he is an illusionist. If he can cite, of his own knowledge. a single eviction within the Christchurch Supreme Court district in the year ending March 31 lagt. except under Court order*. 1 will be disillusioned. If be can give the “other reasons, except financial, which caused the conversion of St Elmo Courts I will concede he is not writing humbug If he works I surmise that he would insist on statutory authority to demand the 1942 wage rate from his ruthless employer.—Yours, etc., R W. July 11. 1961. Sir,—Since the passing of this act in 1942 some 27 flatowners within my knowledge have died not at old age but of worry and privations; nine have entered mental hoepi-
tals and 10 are in nursing homes. New Zealand politicians are so concerned with vote-catching that they are afraid to scrap this aot. We need a few strong-minded politicians like those in London who scrapped the equivalent act because they knew full well it was unjust— Yours, etc., A LOOKER-ON. July 12. 1961.
