Stallion From England •The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, July 11. Freelight, a five-year-old stallion, a winner up to two miles and which finished second to Predominate in the Goodwood Stakes (two miles three furlongs), has been purchased in England for the Hampton Lodge Stud, Invercargill, owned by Mr D. A. Lawton. Freelight, which finished third in the Grey Friars Handicap (two miles), at Birmingham this season under topweight of 9-7, will not be shipped until the end of the year. He will do his first stud season in 1962 at Hampton Lodge. Freelight has won seven races as a three and fouryear old for £2336 in stakes. As a three-year-old he won six times from 11 starts—three times over a mile and a quarter, and also over a mile and three furlongs, a mile and a half and the Nottingham Handicap, two miles. As a four-year-old Freelight had seven starts, winning the Halifax Stakes, two miles, at Ascot. Freelight is a bay horse by Borealis, son of Brumeux, by a noted French sire in Teddy. Borealis is a halfbrother to Alycidon and has been most successful. Freelight is out of Freedar, by Dasiur. the son of Solario, from Freeway, by Fairway from Benvenuta Cellini, whose dam Bunworry was a half-sister to Manna, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas and English Derby and to Sandwich, winner of the St. Leger. Five of Freedar's first seven foals 'have been winners. Hampton Lodge Stud imported the English horse Bellborough, a son of Mossborough, a short time ago and also has the New Zealandteed sire Howe, and Cassock in Its sire strength.
