SMART RUN

Shangri-La In Training (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 11. Shangri-La was one of few horses to run at speed in training at Trentham this morning. She was not timed but moved attractively and pulled up well.

The brilliant Southland mare had a rather light training programme leading up to the Whyte Handicap in which she tired a little near the end and finished sixth

She should run seven furlongs out in the Members’ Handicap, the second leg of the double tomorrow.

Though she has won over a mile and a quarter, seven furlongs is probably ShangriLa's best distance.

Believe Me was under a good hold at the end of a six-furlong gallop with Action Packed this morning, so did not have the worst of it in being beaten by a length. Believe Mg is a fit Wingatui candidate for the Parliamentary Handicap, a race he nearly managed to win two years ago.

R. J. Skelton declined an early invitation to ride Believe Me in the race but changed his mind later and fiew north today.

The Hastings jockey, C H. Mackie, injured his back when Mark fell in the Te Aro Handicap on Saturday and he will not ride tomorrow. He hopes to be fit to resume on Saturday when the meeting will end.
