A deaf and dumb labourer, Darryl Raymond Beamish, aged 20, appeared in Perth Police Court yesterday charged with the murder. of Jillian Macpherson Brewer. Miss Brewer, aged 22, was a gra-nd-tteugMer of the late Sir MacPhenson Robertson, the chocolate manufacturer. Beamish nodded hifi head to indicate understanding when the charge was explained to him. Miss Brewer’s fiance, Andrew Dinnie, aged 30, said in the Court today that he found her stabbed and battered in her bed in her flat about 8.45 a.m. on Sunday. December 20, 1959. He had been with her at the flat until midnight the previous day. Lydia De Julia, a former neighbour, said she heard the dog bark sharply three times after 12.45 am. on December 20. It stopped suddenly—“as If in the middle of a bark.’’ She looked out of the window and saw a very slim man, about 6ft tall, go past. He wore dark grey clothes and a dark hat. The man was taller than Dinnie. Miss Brewer’s fiance. Dr, A. T. Pearson told the Court Miss Brewer died of multiple wounds, extending from head to feet A pair of scissors and a tomahawk with a broken handle were produced in Court. Sixteen witnesses are listed to give evidence. The hearing is expected to last two days.
