TELEVISION SETS
Lower Price Forecast
‘There seems no reason why the television sets produced in New Zealand should not give good performance: and. when production increases and the same competition develops as exists in the radio industry, prices will be reduced.” says “Consumer,” the quarterly magazine of the New Zealand Consumer Service. “We think there is little doubt that television transmission in New Zealand is, and will continue to be, technically good.” the journal says. “It appears that experience gained by other countries has been carefully considered in deciding on the equipment to be used here."
The quality, variety, and extent of the programmes available was another matter, and prospective buyers should realise that initially most programmes would originate overseas.
“We hope a policy will be adopted which will lead to toe development of a service designed for our own particular needs and using, to th- fullest extent, our own talents,” the journal concludes. “New Zealand should use overseas materials to supplement our own programmes and not slavishly accept what is considered good enough for overseas viewers.”
