Soccer First-division Competition May Be Reviewed
Later this year the .Canterbury Football Association will discuss whether the number of teams in the first division should be reduced for next season. This topic was introduced to last evening’s meeting of the association’s management committee by Mr T. C Gottermeyer. convener of the match committee. ’’We will have to look into the question of reducing the number of teams in the firs’ division from 12 to six. and have six in first division B." he said. "This will give a better style of football, football more worthy of a first division competition.” said Mr Go’tenmeyer. If this scheme was adopted, it would allow for a work- ; able system of promotion
and relegation, which wai very necessary, he said. English Cup The English Cup knockout competition will this season be restricted to the six teams still in the Hurley Shield contest Mr Gottermeyer told the committee that the first division B teams would still be playing the second round of their Keys Cup competition. For this reason, said Mr Got'ermeyer. these teams would not be able to play in any knock-out competition.
