60 YEARS MARRIED
Mr And Mrs C. G. Ashdowne Mr and Mrs C. G. Ashdowne, of Springfield road. Christchurch, will celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary today. Mr Ashdowne was bom in Brighton, Sussex, and Mrs Ashdowne at Net-ley, Hamoshire. They were married in Portsmouth in 1901, In World War I they both served in the British Army, and were stationed in Ergland. Mr Ashdowne served in the War Office as a captain and his wife was a member of the Women's Army Corps In 1928 they emigrated to New Zealand. They settled ! n Auckland, where Mr Ashdowne was the organising secretary to the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association and the original company. Since she has lived in New Zealand, Mrs Ashdowne has been an active member of the Mothers’ Union. In Auckland »he belonged to the Progressive League (a patriotic organisation before World War ID. and to the women's group of her church. They have lived in Christchurch for 11 years. They have one son, who Is the manager of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind <Mr G. F. C. Ashdowne). There are two grandsons. Today, Mr and Mrs Ashdowne will entertain relatives and friends.
