The bulletin says that some time ago the federation, jointly with the New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association approached the Commissioner of Police to have prosecutions made in cases of shooting ac- j cidents in the mountains, par. I ticularly where the rifle bad i been fired without the target I having been properly identi-I fled. Since then there have been four prosecutions. "The fact that prosecutions j have been made should do a great deai to emphasise that care is needed when shooting in the mountains if accidents a-e to be avoided.” The Police Department has| printed a rtnaU booklet on ’ how to avoid shooting acci-{ dents. This should be of greet assistance. but does not I remove the need for other! steps to prevent accidents, j says the bulletin. The federa- i tion has decided to approach [ the Forest Service and the; Deerstalkers’ Association to I see if they will co-operate in drawing up a code of safe I practice which can be publi-' cised. and will also approach the National Safety Council i to aee if it will also help fol publicise the dangers "When giving its verdict in i one of the Court cases the' jury added a rider that the { attention of mountain clubs. be drawn to the importance I of wearing clothes of a dis- • tinctive colour when in the bush,” the bulletin says. County (taaaril Officers.— A new award issued by the I Arbitration Court and effec-r tive from Aoril 1 grants - officers of New Zealand I county councils, and catch-1 men*, drainage, and river I boards pay rises ranging from j £5 to £4O • year.—(SLA.) |
