PEOPLE IN THE PLAY
Ann Walker, a small player for her 11 years, showed on Saturday that lack of height is not a disadvantage in basketball. Playing for the Kakatai fifth grade team, she was faced with an opponent twice her height, but she was still quick enough to get in front of her. She shot some good goals later in the day. Ann is a sister of Leonie Walker, who plays centre for Kakatai seniors.
Women’s hockey is something of a come-down after the vigour and comparative ball and stick control of a men’s game. Few women players can trap a ball cleanly, but one who does it consistently and knows how to handle it after is the girlish, black-haired right-wing in the Harewood senior A team, D. Eddy. ★ In the second spell of the All Black trial at Wellington on Tuesday, M. W. Irwin showed some of the
dash and vigour of his form in his club matches! for University in Christchurch early this season. Easily the biggest of the! props Irwin was surprisingly fast and was often the first forward under al high flick.
