Land Agent Gaoled
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 23. A woman land agent. Ellen Mary Nixon, aged 42, was gaoled for two years and a half in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court today on 35 charges of fraudulently converting to her own use a total of £9549 held by her as a land agent. The misappropriation of the money took place from March, 1958, to January of this year, said Mr L. G. Sinclair, S.M. There was no evidence that she was insane or did not know what she was about when she committed the offences, he said. There was an element of deliberation and repetition in the offences. “The moneys that were lost belonged to young people commencing life and entrusting her with money to buy them sections for their homes,” said Mr Sinclair. "The losses were considerable setbacks to them and the amounts varied from over £5O in some cases to £BOO in one."
