The sole selector of the South Island table tennis teams to meet the North Island at Lower Hutt at the end of August will be Mr R. G. Hart, of Christchurch. Mr Hart's appointment was confirmed at a

recent meeting of the New; Zealand Table Tennis Association. He has been a member of the local association and selector for several seasons and convener of the selection panel for the last three years. Mr Hart is also a prominent A grade player for the Wallabies club.

Leonie Walker (Kakatai), the smallest player in Christchurch senior basketball, showed a good team spirit when she decided to stay in Christchurch today to play for her team. She had been selected to play in the annual dental nurses’ tour-

nament in Auckland on Monday. Her team-mates appreciated the loyalty shown by this young player and, so that she could still play in the tournament, contributed to her travelling expenses. Leonie will play in the 2.30 p.m. game on the Hagley courts today, then go straight to Harewood to catch an Auckland-bound aircraft.
