FINE JUMPING.—The Russian high jumper. Valery Brumel. dears the bar at 7ft Ute at an international meeting at Paris last month. In an attempt later to beat the world mark of 7ft 3½in, held by John Thomas, of the United States. Brume! just dislodged the bar on the way down. Last winter in Leningrad, Brume! cleared 7ft 4½in, but the mark is not yet recognised. Brumel also cleared 7ft 3 2/4 in at Moscow on June 18.
