In an attempt later to beat the world mark of 7ft 3½in, held by John Thomas, of the United States. Brume! just dislodged the bar on the way down. Last winter in Leningrad, Brume! cleared 7ft 4½in, but the mark is not yet recognised. Brumel also cleared 7ft 3 2/4 in at Moscow on June 18.
