i Mrs Leigh Kyle Page, a well-known Riccarton racing ■ owner-breeder. died yeater-; (day after a long illness. i Mrs Page owned Cheyenne and Jimmy Hill, which have been withdrawn from their i engagements at Ashburton. ‘ Mrs Page was born In St . Jahn, Canada. but was an ! American citizen and spent moat of h«r life in Bost.cn and San Diego before she came to New Zealand with her Mis-' bend, Mr Charles Fellowes‘Page. in 1910 Mrs Page's ftrst associa-1 tion with horses was as an ! owner of trotters. With) Native Hero she won a Wairarapa Cup and the Wanganui Liverpool Cup. j Native Hero was trained by V. D. Clutterbuek. who has trained' every horse to carry the Page colours since. j While he was training at. Lower Hutt and Carterton. Clutterbuck also prepared Mary Brown and Victor Kyle.' First Galloper Mrs Page’s first galloper was Minahau. now 26 years old. but still in good health Because Clutterbuck was away on Army service. Manahau did little racing, but was once placed. Mrs Page came to the South Island about 14 years ago and lived at first at Burwood. Manahau was brought south and has left the, good performers. Cheyenne.
