EX-PRISONERS OF WAR

C.M.T. Revival Urged (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 23. Remits urging the Government to reintroduce compulsory military training and revive the Second Reserve were passed at the opening session of the New Zealand Ex-Prisoners’ of War Association annual conference in Lower Hutt. “Because of the chaotic state of defences in this country it is essential that the Government take immediate action" was the reason given for both remits, which came from the national executive. The Second Reserve that existed between World War I and World War II was a reserve territorial unit of former servicemen, said Mr S. Shaw, the central executive chairman. Members volunteered to take immediate service for internal defence if war broke out. There was no discussion on the compulsory military training remit.
