Supreme Court £1570 CLAIM SETTLED

Injury To Hand A claim by George Barrymore BeKridge. aged 22. a driver, against Gregory James Piesse, a company manager, for £l3OO general and £7O 13s special damages for personal injuries suffered when his hand was caught in a conveyor belt, was settled in the Supreme Court yesterday. The settlement was made minutes before the action Was to be heard by Mr Justice Richmond and a Jury The Registrar (Mr J. L. ■W. Gerken) told waiting I jurors the case had been settled and discharged them from further attendance. Mr D. H Godfrey, for the plaintiff, and Mr C. B Atkinson. for the defendant, saw his Honour in chambers, where the necessary orders were made. In his statement of claim. Bettridge said he caught his hand between tihe pulley and conveyor on a mobile screening plant while in the employ of the defendant's company on August 15. 1959 He alleged that the injury to his hand was caused by the negligence of the defendant in failing to provide proper guards on the conveyor belt, i The defendant, in his state- | tnent of defence, denied negligence and alleged the I sole cause of the accident I was Bettridge’s negligence in | failing to stop the plant before clearing the conveyor of an obstruction.
