Strict Control In New Bill
tN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 23. Strict control of the importation and consumption of intoxicating liquor in the Cook Islands and Niue is provided for in a Cook Islands Amendment Bill introduced in the House of Representatives today. They substitute provision 4 already in the principal act and in regulations made under the principal act The new provisions will come into force on a date to be fixed by the Governor-General by proclamation The Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands or the Legislative Assembly of Niue! may be by ordinance constitute a liquor control authority for the purpose of; controlling the sale and con-. sumption of liquor. The bill re-enacts without amendment existing provisions prohibiting the manufacture of liquor in the Cook Islands. The Resident Commissioner of the Cook Islands or of Niue may import liquor into the Cook Islands either for hospitals or medical services or for sale in accordance with p-her provisions of the bill. Offences are created for the sale, offer of sale or possession of liquor except in accordance with the provisions of ordinance made under the bill Shirt - sleeved.
