More Shooting In Algeria

(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ALGIERS. June 23. Five people died in shooting incidents in Algeria last night. In Oran. Algeria’s second largest town, unknown persons opened fire with tommyguns from a passing car and killed three Moslems in a busy street. Four other Moslems were injured. At least 12 people have been killed in clashes between the French Army and insurgents in the last two days, according to the Army. In Constantine, Eastern Algeria, a Moslem female welfare officer was shot dead by an .unknown person in the street. Another Moslem woman welfare official was wounded by pistol shots near the scene three hours later. Also in Constantine, a 49-year-old French band leader, Raymond Leyrls. had been shot dead earlier on a crowded square, while a French Army sergeant-major was seriously injured by pistol shots later.

The Associated Press said that earlier in the day Nationalist rebels attacked a French freight train in Eastern Algeria, killing two railway workers. The rebel band halted the train, carrying gravel and sand, near Bougrina on the

line between Constantine and Philippeville. Reuter said French Army officials revealed last night that two Army officers, a lieutenant and a secondlieutenant, were killed in an insurgent ambush near Affreville last Saturday.
