Varied Duties Of Unusual Job A woman with an unusual job is Mrs A. Kathnar. who ’s nossiblv the only woman bailiff in the Southern Hemisnhere. and certainly the only, one in Australia Mrs Kathnar. who is, sheriff’s bailiff in the court district of Cairns, was the I only woman applicant for the! job. which she has held for eight years. Court officials though a little shocked, could find nothing in the rules to prevent a woman from holding the job. It involves going down the holds of ships, into hotel bars and along the waterfronts. It has taken her into wild b»ek country, and to Thuradav Island and New Guinea Mrs Kathnar’s job began after her husband died. The couple had been on a holi-; day cruise because of Mr Kathnar’s ill-health. He died i at Cairns where Mrs Kathnar' later applied and obtained ;her job. Previously, she and, [her husband had been the principals of a movie studio i in North Sydney. Her job earns her £125 a Tear. and in addition she gets a fee for each document she serves She often works a 170-hour week.
