Former Maternity Home Sold

(N.Z Press Association) DUNEDIN. June 14. “El Nido.” a former maternity hospital in Dunedin has been sold at public auction for £5150. Government valuation of the property was in excess of £9OOO. according to the auctioneer. It was offered by the Otago Hospital Board The purchaser declined to give his name and the future use of the property was not disclosed. “El Nido” was the oldest established nursing home in New Zealand when it closed in April of this year. It was first opened in 1908 under the name of “Wharepuni.” The building was first a private home and was about 70 years old. It was acquired by the Hospital Board in 1946. A wooden building, it had 19 rooms including staff quarters and kitchens.
