LORD MAYOR’S VISIT

Sword Bearer In City Colonel B. J. D. Lumsden. Sword Bearer to the Lord Mayor of London (Sir Bernard Waley-Cohen) arrived in Christchurch yesterday to make preliminary arrangements for the Lord Mayor’s visit to the city from August 30 to Septi mber 1. Colonel Ltur.eden has already visited Wellington. He will have discussions with the Mayor (Mr G. Manning), the Acting Town Clerk (Mr C. S. Bowie i and Internal Affairs Deportment officials in the city this morning before going to Dunedin. From there he will fly to Auckland and thence bock to London. When the Lord Mayor visits New Zealand he will be accompanied by Lady WaleyCohen. Sheriff Mr Adam Kirk and the Sheriff's Lady, who is Mr Kirk’s married daughter. Mrs Scott, the Chief Commoner <Mr Keith Calder) and three esquires—Colonel Lumsden, the Common Cryer and Serjeent-at-Arms (Brigadier P C. Clapham) and the City Marshal (Brigadier R Topham). Sir Bernard Wa’ey-Cohen’s visit to New Zealand will be his second. He visited the Dominion with a party of public school boys about 1937.
