Bargoed In Training For Australian Trip

'Tfie Press" Special Service

AUCKLAND. June 13. The smart Takanini three-year-old, Perilad, has been rested to be resdy for an Australian campaign this spring. His stablemate. Bargoed, the leading secondseason horse in the Dominion. has begun light training again for the same purpose. G. G. Cameron, who prepares both Perilad and Bargoed. said today that he had not decided whether to make the trip to Sydney and Melbourne himself. As well as Perilad and Bargoed. Don Palatine. Airephelia and Action Packed are members of Cameron’s team which have been nomfor the big spring races in Australia and except perhaps for Action Packed, all seem certain to make the journey. The owner of Bargoed. Don Palatine and Airephelia. Mr T. W. Langford, said that in the event of Cameron not being able to accompany the horses he would take them himself. In Cameron’s absence, according to Perilad’s owner. Mr S. B. Watkins, his horse would go into the stable of a Sydney trainer.

Bargoed. after a spell of six weeks or so. is in great health and looks well in every way. He won at his last attempt, after a third iti the Easter Handicap and second in the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes at the Auckland autumn meeting with a decisive victory in the Great Northern Challenge Stakes. SPRING CUP

The races in Australia for which Bargoed has been entered include the £20.750 Melbourne Cup, the Caulfield and Williamstown Cups and George Adams Memorial Handicap tone mile) in Melbourne and the Epsom Handicap in Sydney.

Perilad. which has won twice in his last three starts, is an entrant for the Adams Memorial and Ensom Handicaps and the Craven Stakes (Melbourne).

Having lightened with his winning run in the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie on June 3. Action Packed was let up for a time in his training. As there is nothing to suit him on the first day of the Wellington winter meeting next month he will probably be taken south only for the second and third days, on which the Parliamentary and Winter Oa’s Handicaps will be run. Meanwhile the chances are that he will compete on the first day of the Avondale winter meeting on Julv 1.

Next Sunday. St. Elmo and Pnlunita. which are in F. J Cobb’s stable a* Takanini. will travel to Hastings for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's meeting, which will start on Saturday week AJI going well they will travel on to Trentharr for the Wellington winter meet’ng

Pulnpita will be ridden hv G F Laurenson in bfs southern engagements No rider ha» ve* been engaged for Good St, Elmo. The brood mare. Duvsch. which produced the Melbourne Ct« winner. Hiraii ha» arrived at Cnhb's property from Otane. tn Hawke’S Bay where she has been at stud. Duvaeh has been offered to the Takanini trainer by his brother, G. Cobb, who is now living in Svdney She has not produced for » eounle of years and will probably be allowed to run with one of the leaserknown stallions before hope

of getting further foals from her is abandoned. DAUGHTER OF FOXBRIDGE Before being retired to the stud in the early 1940’5. Duvach showed herself to be one of the best daughters of Foxbridge. Hiraji, by Nizami, was her first foal and she produced as well Ninnid and Mac's Amber, which were good winners in Australia, and Happy Laughter. Having won more than £l6OO with him during the last 12 months, the Takanini owners, Mr and Mrs E W. Dobbie. can consider that they have done very well indeed with their eight-year-old gelding. Peter Night, especially as he cost them only £lOO two years ago. Peter Night's biggest win was in the £1250 Remuera Hurdles at Ellerslie on the. middle day of the Auckland winter meeting last Monday. He ran unplaced in the Campbell Hurdles, evidently because of striking his stifle rather badly. Quite recovered to all appearances. Peter Night will be another in a team of Takanini horses at the Wellington winter meeting next! month .at which his big assignment will be the £2500 Winter Hurdles. The Te Awamutu rider. J. F Grylls, is expected to be on him in his Trentham engagements.
