FIRE HYDRANTS AT PORT

Borough Asked For Markers The Lyttelton Borough Council will be asked by the Christchurch Fire Board to comply with its legal requirements to install markers at all fire hydrants. Mr T. F. Perkin complained to the board last evening that it was difficult to find hydrants at Lyttelton. He had written two letters to the town clerk at Lyttelton asking for the markers to be installed, said the Chief Fire Officer (Mr L. R. Osmond). ■ It was an important matter, for while the firemen at port probably knew where the hydrants were, there were new men from time to time, Mr Osmond said. If *he Christchurch brigade had to go to the port to assist at a fire it was wholly dependent on markers to know where to find hydrants There had been some “buck-passing” between the Lyttelton brigade and the council, Mr Perkin said.
