TACKS ON ROAD
Many Tyres Punctured
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 11. Carpet tacks on the Piha road are reported to have punctured dozens of car tyres al the week-end. They are believed to have been spread by vandals or accidentally dropped from a tradesman's truck. Garage proprietors at Piha and on the scenic drive have been plagued by motorists wanting punctures repaired. Mr M. Chester, the store and service station proprietor at Waiatarua, eaid that even the local milkman and the Piha bus picked up tacks. He stationed his two sons. Michael and Wayne, at the Piha road intersection. For eight hours today the boys wairned every car that came to the intersection that they went to Piha at their own risk. They also stopped cars that had already gone to Piha when they came back and advised them to “examine their tyres.” Of 100 cars that the boys counted as they came out of Piha only two escaped tacks
