TROTTING NELSON SPRINT RACE

Admit Picked For Win Today

Admit, which was twice placed at the recent Ashburton meeting, should gain a well-earned win in the Ajax Handicap today. The Ajax Handicap is the main sprint race on the first day of the Nelson Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Richmond Park. Admit finished fourth over 12 furlongs in the race won by Velvet Drive from Sarona and Worthy River on the first day at Ashburton, and last Monday he was a close third to Dillon’s Fashion and Regina Chief in the two-mile Acton Handicap.

Admit has taken time to strike form for his Invercargill owner, Mr A. V. Kingsland, for whom he is trained at Templeton by W. R. Butt. The brother to Unite Will not encounter particularly strong opposition at Nelson and it will be most surprising if he fails to make a bold showing. C. S. Donald's bracket of four—Snuffbox, Maud Noble. Implore and Nevan—will be in demand if all of them are started. However, that is unlikely. All of them should be capable of a bold showing over the sprint distance. First Song has raced satisfactorily lately in strongei fields than he will encounter at Nelson. The Flying Song gelding is speedy, and he will only need reasonable luck in the running to take a prominent part in the finish. Contribute. Moneymusk. Red Belle and Loyal Brigade are others expected to race well. The double will be run on the Nelson Winter Cup and the Collingwood Handicap Trusted and the bracket of Snuffbox. Implore and Nevan will probably vie for favouritism in the first leg. with Trusted making most appeal.
