BLOOD DONORS

137 In Post Office Branch More than 100 blood donations have been given this year by the staff of the engineers’ branch of the Christchurch Post Office. The branch has 137 current donors, three of whom have given 40 or more transfusions “The Blood Transfusion Service treats us as one of its standby sources, although we also get regular calls.” Mr F. C. Rainbow, the supervisor who organises the Post Office part of the scheme, said yesterday. "Mostly we get a day’s notice, so that we can keep back the outside staff donors wanted by the service; but sometimes in an emergency we go round to the gangs to pick people up “New donors are coming .orward all the time, but especially in an emergency A week or two ago. for example. when the blood bank sent out a call for as many donors as possible, of whatever blood type, at all possible speed, nearly a dozen new donors were among those who gave blood.”
