ARMED MAN CAUGHT
Intruder In Shop (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 8. A man armed with a gasoperated slug pistol and carrying an expert burglar's kit was eaught by the pokce about 2.30 a.m. today in the premises of Harmony House, dealers. Upper Queen street. A householder heard suspicious noises on the roof of Harmony House and telephoned the police Patrol cars surrounded the building, and Detective Hutchinson found a men inside, trying to bide behind a stack of cases. The man seemed to be oarrying a revolver behind his beck. The detective told him to hand it over. The men heeitated. then pointed U towards the detective—end then suTrended it. Only then did police know it was not a lethal weapon. Its design is very similar to a 45-calibre pistol. The arrest is expected to clear up several major breek-ing-and-entering offences round the city recently. The burglary kit included a jemmy, hammer, torch, Unships and "jumper’’ leads (for starting stolen cars), a pair of pliant, skin-tight, imported leather gloves and even a “pep-up” preparation tn powder form to light sleep Senior police officers say a good “catch” was made because they were notified promptly of something unusual and were able to act immediately.
