INSPECTIONS OF PORT
Harbour Board’s Discussion The Ohoka and districts branch of Federated Farmers would like to visit the port at Lyttelton and harbour extension works this month or next; but the Lyttelton Harbour Board yeserday postponed any visit until the spring and agreed to consider a policy for inspections. It was not a good idea to have visits in June or July, said the chairman (Mr A. A. Macfarlane). Perhaps an invitation could be made through the executives of North Canterbury and MidCanterbury Federated Farmers. as had been done in the past. “We can’t be inviting Individual branches from all round Canterbury,” said Mr R. T. McMillan. Visits in the past had been more for executive members of Federated Farmers, said Mr J. Brand. The board should welcome a visit by a branch, but “not on the full scale of the past.” “We can leave this for a month or two,” said Mr Macfarlane. The Manufacturers' Association had also indicated that it might like to make an inspection. “It would be good public relations,” said Mr G. Manning. Mr Macfarlane: But not in the middle of winter.
