Hockey INDIANS’ MATCH

Called Off At Half-Time (N.Z. Press Association) TE AWAMUTU, June 7. The Indian Wanderers hockey team met Waipa on a rain-soaked ground at Te Awamntn today, but because of the possibility of injury or sickness to the tourists, the match was abandoned at half-time at the request of the manager, Mr Gurnharin Singh. At this stage, the Indians were leading, 4-2. This was a big disappointment to the spectators, who until then had seen a bustling Waipa team more than hold its own. In spite of persistent moderate rain, conditions under-' foot were good, and the tourists were not troubled to show their brilliant control and understanding. But it was the home team which supplied most of the thrills, and when the half was called the stage seemed set for an exciting finish. The scorers for India were Gurdev Singh, Herbinder Singh, B. Patel, and Jhaman Lal Sharma. L. Addison and D. Jennens goaled for Waipa.
