AMMUNITION DUMPING

280 Tons For Disposal INZ Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 7. Two hundred and eighty tons of old service ammunition will be disposed of by H M.N.Z S. ’ Endeavour when she works from Auckland. Wellington and Lyttelton this month. The ship will take 60 tons from Auckland at the beginning of the month and 200 tons from Wellington on June 23-27. Twenty tons will be taken from Lyttelton on June 29. The Endeavour's programme is in line with the Navy’s responsibility for disposing of old Government and service explosives. Fixed areas are laid down for the dumping, all of them in at least 1800 ft of water. The Auckland area is in 1800 to 2400 ft 35 miles Mat of Cuvier Island: the Wellington area is in 1800 to 4200 ft. 25 miles east of Wellington heads; and the Lyttelton area is In 1800 to 3000 ft. 45 miles north-east of Banks Peninsula.
