SHOW JUMPER FOR JAPAN
Sale Of Dunedin Horse “The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, June 7. Miss Shirley Benson, of Dunedin, has sold her jumper, Arctic, to Japan. The seven-year-old Theseus gelding will be included in the team of horses that the Japanese are preparing for the equestrian events at the 1964 Olympic Games at Tokyo. Arctic was the only horse from the South Island, and one of four selected in the Dominion by Mr Colaman Bolgar. Mr Bolgar was manager of the one-horse New Zealand team at the Rome Olympics. The Japanese were so impressed by the performances of the horse. Telebrae, that they commissioned Mr Bolgar to secure several New Zealand horses suitable for their requirements. Arctic has not won a prize as a jumper, but his training has been a long-term plan. He will leave Dunedin tomorrow morning for the North Island to join the other horses bought by Mr Bolgar.
