ATTEMPT ON SAFE IN BANK

Thieves Balked Of £6BO (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 7. Burglars early this morning failed to blast open a heavy safe at the Papakura branch of the Australia and New Zealand Bank, Ltd. The safe contained £6BO in silver. The explosion split one side of the safe, and jammed the door, which did not open. The walls and ceiling of the room were spattered with gelignit- and soap, which had been used to seal gaps around the door, and plug gelignite into the safe’s key hole. The intruders forced their

way into the bank by smashing a hole through a plaster vail from a vacant shop next door.
