LICENSING OF IMPORTS
Government To Hold Talks (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. June 2. Talks would be held with the national organisations interested in import licensing the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr J. R. Marshall) said last night. Their views would be sought on the practical application of what the Government had in mind, with the idea of having flexibility and avoiding unnecessary dislocation, said Mr Marshall. He said, however, that It could not be said at this stage whether import licences would be down next year. But those concerned had been prepared for a drop by the policy statement that the 1961 licences would have to be spread Into 1962. Amplifying his reference to flexibility, Mr Marshall Mid it was hoped to provide in some cases and under certain conditions for the transfer of licences to import goods in plentiful supply to licences to import goods in short supply.
