HOSPITAL BOARD FUNERALS
No Tenders Since Tribunal Ruling
No tenders for funerals have been made to the North Canterbury Hospital Board since the Trade Practices and Prices Commission ruled that it is illegal for funeral directors to make one joint tender. The board has therefore continued its practice of awarding its funerals to the directors tn turn at a price negotiated with their association.
The hospital board is responsible under statute for the burial 6f persons who have no estate and no-one willing to shoulder the expense of the funeral. The number of these averages about 15 to 20 a year.
