TRAPPED IN CAB

Loader Driver Killed

IN.Z Press Association) mmmi, May 29. A Ministry of Works driver was killed yesterday when he was trapped in the cab of a front-end loader which capsized into a swamp 20ft below the main highway to Central Otago, at Round Hill. He was George Francis Walker, aged about 30, of Otokia. Mr Walker was driving the front-end loader along the road when the heavy vehicle apparently left the bitumen, and rolled into the swamp below. The cab was submerged under the oozing mud and water. A motorist who had just passed the loader, saw the accident in his rear vision mirror and advised the Ministry of Works gang working further along the highway.

The Milton police were called and were able to get the body from the cab.

Injuries

A youth, who suffered serious head injuries when a car skidded on a bend in Rocking Horse road. South Brighton, and struck a power pole about 11.30 p.m. on Saturday. died in the Princess Margaret Hospital at 7 a.m yesterday. He was: Ronald Wilfred Rhind, aged 15, of 48 Rogers street, Sydenham. Three other persons were injured in the accident.
