BEXLEY LAND SALE
“Prices Reasonable To Board”
A complaint by Mr R. H Stillwell that sections at Bexley sold at auction for an average of £563 had been “thrown away,” was not supposed by other members of the Christchurch Transport Board yesterday. Mr Stillwell said that too low a reserve had been fixed. Filling had probably cost £lOO a section, and when other charges were added the board would probably be lucky to get £4OO a section, which was too low. The auctioneer would not disclose the reserve and would get the best price, said Mr N. R. Forbes. Anyone who knew the history of the land and the area would be wary of paying more. Mr H. E. Denton said the land verged on rural land. He was sure the board had received the market value. “An inquest at this stage is not going to get us far,” he said.
"The sections were sold at a reasonable price, reasonable for the board and reasonable for the purchaser.” said the chairman (Mr J. Palmer),
