False Step's Ranking

“It is difficult to see any American horse beating False Step in the near future," said John Noble in a letter to “The Press" received after False Step had won at Roosevelt Raceway. New York. on Saturday. “Bye Bye Byrd trailed False Step throughout their last meeting at Yonkers Raceway and could not match his speed over the final stages of the race. Bye Bye Byrd is the holder of the world mile record on a half-mile track.

“Apmat is jaded after the hard racing he had at Yonkers and it will probably be a week or two before be is asked to race again. He is being trained by the former New Zealand horseman. E. H. Kennerley. who arrived in New York recently with the trotter Gay Vivienne.

“Gay Vivienne did not travel well and her condition is so poor that it is unlikely she will be able to race for a considerable time. Although her last mile rate at Harold Park was 2min lOsec. good judges here think she will be capable of 2min 3sec for one mile from a flying start. “Arania is still not settled down completely to American conditions." said Noble. “She will shortly join Caduceus in Billy Haughton's team and race until the end of the season before being mated with a leading stallion and returned to New Zealand.

“The visiting trainers and horses have more room, now that they have been shifted to Roosevelt Raceway Unlike Yonkers, Roosevelt is a snacious place covering about 300 acres. Except for the car park, it is covered with a profusion of greenery comparable with anything in Australia and New Zealand. The grandstand and clubhouse is modern in design and capable of seating 25.000. 'The stabling area contains two separate training tracks as well as about 35 bams accommodating almost 1000 horses. In addition there are facilities of a high standard for owners and trainers, including living quarters for grooms.”
