PLAN TO BUILD MOTELS

Riccarton Council's

Approval

The erection of 10 motels on rear land at 253 Lincoln road was approved in principle last evening at a meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council. Conditions of the approval are that the motels must comply with the minimum housing requirements, that a limit of six weeks’ tenancy be imposed, that a fence be erected between neighbouring council land and the applicant’s land, and that detailed plans and specifications be submitted to the council.

The application was made by V. C. Craig and Company. Mr V. C. Craig said last evening that it was planned to commence work on the 100-perch section as soon as plans had been completed and approved. There would be two sets of two-unit motels and two sets of three units. The units would be fully selfcontained and it was planned to build garages and driveways. There would be provision for a recreation room comprising table tennis equipment and other facilities, and there would probably be a community television room. The land adjoins a Riccarton Borough Council reserve.
