Change In Name Of Braneh
The Lyttelton branch of the British Sailors’ Society will in future be known as the Canterbury Merchant Navy Centre. This was decided at the branch’s annual meeting in Lyttelton la«t evening, when the forty-ninth annual report and balance-sheet were presented. A total of 13,808 seamen from 497 ships had visited the branch last year, the re. port said. There had been 50 dances held, 1255 suppers served, 49 film evenings organised, and 2007 books and magazines issued. Officers elected were:— President, the Rev. Canon R. J. Witty; vlce-nresidents. Messrs T. F. M. Gibson and E. Fraser; honorary vicepresidents, the Bishop of Christchurch <the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren), the Moderator of the Christchurch Presby, tery <Mr C. C. Wilson), and the chairman of the North Canterbury district of the Methodist Church <the Rev H. G. Browm); secretary. Miss J. R. Sneddon: treasurer. Miss W. M. Hatehwell; directors, the Rev. D. K. Boyd, the Rev. B. O. Richards, the Rev. R. S. Andrews, the Rev. }. Tennent, Commander J. C. Elworthy. Captain A. R. Champion, Captain R. S. Webster. Messrs P, J. Byrne, G. F. Phillips, and H. L. Herdman, Mesdames G. Hennessy, D. E. Hansen, W. Keetley, and R. Holcroft, and Miss A. A. Wilson.
