Holmburn Fire Recalled
!N'l Press Association > AUCKLAND. May 29 The bravery of Mr K. L Barker, of Auckland, who risked his life in rn attempt to rescue officers of the Holmburn when it caught fire at Lyttelton on May 7. 1959 was recalled by the Mayor (Mr D M Robinson) at a meeting of the Auckland City Council tonight. Mr Barker lost his life when the Holmglen went down with all hands in No”ember. 1959. His mother, Mrs E R Stephenson, of 28 Broadway. Newmarket, attended the meetins tnnirht and received from the Mayor a certificate awarded to her son by the Roval Humane Society Mr Barker joined the Royal Navy in 1932 and was an asdic and radar technician in cruisers and submarines in World War 11.
