“OPEN DAY” AT ARANUI H.S.
Visitors Inspect Amenities The “open day” at Aranui High School on Saturday had been successful enough to justify attempting it another year, said the headmaster (Mr W. J. A. Brittenden) yesterday. The school was open to the public as an experiment. About 200 visitors were told by Mr Brittenden they were free to go wherever they wished. Prefects were available as guides, and about half the school’s teachers stood by to answer questions. Visitors had commented on the difference in amenities compared with those of their day. said Mr Brittenden. Before the inspection the visitors gathered in the assembly hall. Mr Brittenden tol dthem: “It is not the idea that this should be a kind of salesmanship.” He explained the architectural plan of the school and said its linear plan was unique in the South Island. This year the school had a roll of 350; next year it would have 700, and the ultimate figure would be between 900 and 1000, he said.
