Work Described A million dollar transaction in half an hour—after banking hours—by a former Christchurch man was described to a meeting of the Christchurch branch of the United Nations Association of New Zealand on Saturday by Dr L. R. Bedggood. Dr. Bedggood. who is president of the Waikato branch of the association, described New Zealanders he met at the Uni’ed Nations headquarter' in New York last year. Wb ; !e he was speaking to Mr B. Turner, comptroller of the organisations' finances, a request came from the Coneo for a million dollars. Mr Bedggood said. “Although it was well after banking hours. Mr Turner telephoned a bank manager he knew, and in half an hour the transac'ion was complied.” he said. New Zealanders visiting the headquarters could expect to meet several Of their countrymen there, Mr Bedggood said. A popular guide was Ngaire Anderson, of Christchurch: the heed of the press section was Mr D. Exley, a New Zealander; and another New Zealander. Mr J. Mele, was a member of the Human Rights Commi'sion. Another New Zealander doing important work for the organisation was Sir LeMie Dr. Bedggood said.
