MANY SHOP DISPLAYS

Civic Luncheon Today

About 50 Christchurch businesses, and many in other centres, carry window displays to mark the Commonwealth - technical training week. Several of the businesses, mainly garages, carry their own exhibits but most of the displays have been arranged by various Government or local body departments or private organisations.

Thirty city factories are open for inspection, some of them for the first time. The official opening function will be a civic luncheon at 12.30 p.m. today. Special broadcasts will be made later in the week by the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand), and the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent). The prize-giving for parttime classes at the Christchurch Technical College will be held tonight to link in with the week, the guest speaker being Mr J. R.
