tN.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) CAPE CANAVERAL (Florida), May 27.
An advanced Atlas “E” missile designed to carry a heavier payload over a greeter range than the original Atlas made a successful 5000-mile flight last night from Cape Canaveral. Earlier, Dr Wehmer Von Braun said that a "radical departure” in big booster rocket design could put a crew of men around the moon two years ahead of present schedules. United Press International reported. In a talk at the first national conference of peaceful uses of space, Dr. Von Braun disclosed that the Saturn rocket’s thrust of 1.500 0001 b would be doubled by the new departure. The new designs would mean that manned missions, including the flight of the three-man crew around the moon and back, could be undertaken at least two years ahead of the present target date of 1967 the news agency said.
