Recent Meeting At Opawa’

Three groups, each comprising Country Women’s Institutes of the Canterbury federation, are holding meetings. The first was the Port Hills group which met in St. Mark's Church Hall. Opawa. recently. Members had heard from their sponsored Greek child and each of the five institutes in the group had sent an annual parcel. Donations were planned for Dominion headquarters, the Aged Welfare Council, and the Foundation for the Blind. Mrs M. Petheram (convener! presided and welcomed the guests, who included the speaker. Mr Richard Thompson, and the vice-president of the Canterbury federation (Mrs W. McDiarmid). The Bromley institute was the host body. Mrs McDiarmid Congratulated Mrs Petheram and Mrs C. Cornish (retiring secretary'. on the excellent work they had done during their terms of office. Interest had grown so much that the attendance had more than doubled, she said. Mrs McDiarmid appointed Mrs E. Green, of Lyttelton, convener, and Mrs N. Louden. of Hillsborough-Heath-cote, secretary.
