These cattle have all been inspected and passed by the Inspector appointed by the New [Zealand Aberdeen Angus Cattle Breeders’ Association. Since he founded his herd Mr Orchard has spared neither tihie nor expense in his efforts to improve his cattle, and today his bulls at the Annual Aberdeen Angus South Island Bull Sale are particularly keenly competed for by buyers of I strong, hardy station sires. The Wandle Downs property [lies apnroximatley 1200 ft [above sea level, and these bulls shift to advantage anywhere. Our vendor has concentrated on putting before the public good station bulls with particular emphasis on good feet, strong constitution, and heavy bone, at the same time insisting on the retention of size and scale, without sacrificing quality. The present herd sire. “Uljago of Omakere.” was purchased from the well-known .“Omakere” herd of Messrs Nairn Brothers, and is a son of “Eulijago of Kilham.’’ imported by Mr Donald Grant for his famous “Mangatoro” herd. i That “Eulijago of Kilham” ! has been a success at the “Mangatoro” herd is evidenced by the large number of his sons which have headed so many of the Dominion’s Stud Herds. The first draft of two-year-old bulls by “Uljago of Omakere'’ were offered at the last South Island Bull Sale, and for the eight offered, the average price of 150gns was received at auction. This average is particularly noteworthy when it is realised that with the exception of one bull, which was regained for home use. the complete 1958 drop of Bulls was offered in the sale draft. We confidently recommend attendance at this sale to buyers wishing to add to existing herds, and to anyone wishing to obtain females for the establishment of a new herd.
