The University invites applications for appointment to the Foundation Chair of Pur* Mathematics in the School or Mathematics. The School, under the headship at Professor G. Bosson. is composed of the Departments of Pure Mathematics (Professor to be appointed >. Applied Mathematics (Professor J. M. Blatt I. Mathematical Statistics (Asaociate Professor J D Douglas', and Engineering and General Mathematics (Associate Professor A. Keane). The School of Mathematics prepares students taking mathematics at pass and honours level in the Faculties ot Arts and Science. In addition, a considerable amount of mathematics is taught to students whose main interests are engineering and applied science. The School operate* a well equipped Computing Laboratory. and the University also possesses a large electronic digital computer (LTh.COM. an Englitfr Electric DEUCE machine). The salary will be lA4IM per annum. After passing a medical examination. the successful applicant will be eligible to join the State Superannuation Scheme, leading to a maximum pension ot CA2184 per annum Subject to the consent of the Council of the University, he may undertake a limited amount of higher consultative work
Professors at the University are eligible to apply for six months’ study leave, with lull salary after thr*e years of service, or 12 months after six years. With the approval of the University and its bankers, married men may be assisted by loans to purchase a home. The University reserves the right to fill the Chair by invitation.
