Production in heavy industry and in the textile industry was higher in April this year than in the same month last year, according to preliminary figures issued by the Commonwealth Statistician (Mr S. R. Carver) today. However, output for building materials appliances and motor vehicles was down on last year. Practically all industries produced less in April than in March because the Eras'er break meant a shorter workin* month.

Farmers’ Bld.—On s provisional count the number of acceptances of the offer by Hawkes Bay Farmers, Ltd., and share transfers applied for by shareholders of Common Shelton and Company, Ltd., is 61.870. Metal.—The directors of Consolidated Metal Industries, Ltd., report that figures for the group for the year ended March 31 clearly indicate record earnings well in advance of those for the previous year. Bunting’s Purchase.—Bunting and Company, Ltd., has purchased a “moot Suitable property” in Auckland. Directors say, in the annual report, that the present Auckland warehouse, “which was totally inadequate for our present and future requirements, has been sold. On the new section a modern and up-to-date building will be erected.” Taupo Total* Spilt.—The company proposes to split Ms 10s share* into 5s units. Final dividend is 8d a share—payable August 4, ex July 22. (P.A.) Northern Steel.—Northern Steel Supplies, Ltd.. Auckland, has recommended an unchanged final ordinary dividend of 5 per cent., making 10 per cent, for the year ended March 31. Total payment last year, including a 2 per cent, bonus, was 12 per cent. The dividend will be paid on July 1, ex June 19. British Paints. British Paints (Holdings), Ltd., United Kingdom, has issued 400,000 4s ordinary stock units valued at £500,000 for the purchase of all the shares in Selley’* Chemical Manufacturing Company Pty., Ltd.. Marrickville, New South Wales.
