The favourite for the race is the American champion and record holder Adios Butler. driven by Eddie Cobb The future of False Step has been doubtful since he left New Zealand for the Yonkers International. The stallion is eight years old and he would be unable to race An New Zealand this year if he returned home. Because of the quarantine laws the horse would have to spend six months, probably in England, before he could be returned to New Zealand The horse's age and the quarantine delay are considered strong reasons for selling the horse in the United States where he has proved himself a great pacer.
